The Unity Candle has great symbolism for a wedding ceremony.  Unity candles are not indicative of any religion.   Unity candles are used by secular people and people all faiths.

You do not need an "official" unity candle set either.  Any candle type will do.  Remember, the unity candle is not a verbal activity but a visual, dramatic event.  In other words, the unity candle dramatically and symbolically shows the joining of your lives.

Some think candles may be used only indoors.  Wrong!  Candles may be outdoors if prepared properly.

When outside, use proper components to make sure the flame stays lit during the inevitable wind.

Hurricane glasses are a must.  They are effective.  Use one for each candle.  Choosing candle height/size is critical.  To protect the candle, the candle must be no more than half the hurricane glass height.  The candle must be shorter than the hurricane glass, normally four (4) or more inches [10 cm] shorter.
