Celebrations and Ceremonies

Wedding Principles

  1. The people getting married are the center of the ceremony and the event.

  2. The focus of the wedding party is the ceremony.

  3. The content and its formation are in the hands of the people getting married.

  4. The ceremony's content reflects the values and the spirit of the people getting married within the framework of a humanistic culture.

  5. The ceremony reflects the couple's free and educated choice.

  6. The ceremony is of a personal and private nature -- tailored for the couple's needs, desires, and perspective.

  7. The ceremony is modular -- it can be interpreted creatively and assembled in a new fashion.
    There is no dictated formula.

  8. The traditional ceremony is a source of inspiration, but not one of authority.

  9. The ceremony is found within its contemporary cultural context: culture, religion, local and humanistic.

  10. The ceremony will be of a professional quality: moving, dignified, earnest, flowing, funny and fun.
