Celebrations and Ceremonies

Multi-Lingual

Often Jim is asked to create ceremonies that blend different cultures.  Many times this requires the use of two or more languages in the ceremony.  When two nationalities exist, Jim is willing to prepare a script that shares the segment in one language then the other.

Jim's policy is that whenever a non-English language phrase is used, we also say English so others know what is being said.  For example, a welcome message in English and Polish.

English

Polish

Welcome everyone!

Please be seated.

Welcome Friends and family to this most special occasion.

You, the family and friends who have gathered here, share the values, hopes, and dreams this moment implies.

You are not only spectators in this celebration, but also special participants.

you have joined us here with these two special people at this special place.

Vitame Vas!

Prosze usiadzcie

Wszyscy wy ktorzy tutaj przybyliscie , rodzina, przyjaciele chcecie dzielic ten wspanialy

Another example is French and English for ring exchange.

French

English

I give to you this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, honor, and respect you.

With this ring I thee wed in the name of our love.

The other

I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine

I accept this ring as a sign of my love, my loyalty, and my friendship.

Another example is Spanish and English for vows.

Spanish

English

Alvaro, repeat after me:
Jenniffer, I take you to be my wife from this time onward, to join with you and to share all that is to come.
To give and to receive
to speak and to listen
to travel and stay home
to play and work when need be
to inspire and to respond.
And in all our life together to be loyal and love you whole-heartedly.

Sometimes, certain popular phrases are given to recognize and acknowledge other cultures, for example, Russian:

Russian

English

Dobry den'!

Dobriy vecher!

Ia ochen rad schto vy vsyo zdes vstrechayutsia sevodnya

Good day!

Good evening.

I’m glad that you are all gathered here today.

And, again possible opening words:

Hebrew

English

Listen now you seekers of love,
Hear this, you seekers of happiness,
There is no happiness without love.

The respect and recognition of different cultures is mandatory, especially when guests (family or friends) have traveled long distances from another culture or nationality to be at this celebration.
