Jim's fee for weddings is normally $400 for years 2006-2007.
The fee includes the standard initial & planning meeting, multiple communications designing the ceremony, customized ceremony development, the rehearsal, and, of course, the wedding celebration. Other meetings may be included.
Jim asks for a $100 deposit to serve as a commitment fee. The fee balance is due prior to the wedding celebration, often prior the ceremony.
Jim recommends all fees be paid prior to the wedding ceremony. With all these tasks completed, and Jim pronounces the groom and bride "man and wife," The couple have no remaining obligations, and now only celebrate the special event with family and friends.
Nota bene:
Given the abrupt raise on vehicle fuel
costs, the fees for 2008 and beyond are being investigated.
Currently, new values (or different formula) is being staged for
future events.
Consider the simple meeting, rehearsal and wedding celebration -- this traveling often results in about 600 miles, 12 hours of driving, plus time to build and communicate wedding pieces and final draft. Given the 2006 IRS provides $.485 per mile, this is $291. Add 30+ hours to ceremony development (total 42), Jim makes $2.62 per hour. Yes, we need to rethink the fees.

Clearly, exceptions to this fee amount may be based on other attributes such as extra travel, simpler ceremonies or other appropriate related items. If requested, a written contract may be incorporated.
