Judaism is the culture and identity of the Jewish people. The use of reason and scientific method is the best way for discovering truth. Humanistic Judaism is a philosophy affirming that the power of individuals to achieve a meaningful and ethical life lies within themselves and other people. Humanistic Jews believe that the message of Jewish history is self-reliance. Humanistic Judaism addresses the needs of cultural and non-theistic Jews worldwide who seek to identify with the Jewish people and the Jewish heritage. We are proud members of the 4000-year-old pluralistic Jewish culture created by our people. We believe that the Bible is a rich source of ancient wisdom; but it is not a divinely authored or revealed document. We find no evidence for the existence of a supernatural god who intervenes in human affairs in response to prayer or to ensure justice. The world is a natural place, governed by natural laws; human destiny is in human hands. |
